YouTube Highlights of the future stars… Part 2

by Ryan Pravato on May 24th, 2008

Last post I looked at some of the top freshman in the 08/09 class from the Big 10, Pac 10 and Big East conferences, of course with the help of YouTube’s vantage point. Part 2 will focus on the ACC, SEC and Big 12 conferences.

First off is a high flying 6’4 Elliot Williams. He looks to be the antithesis of many former and present Duke players. His athletic prowess allows him to guard multiple positions and score in a variety of ways. But he needs to fine tune his jumper some. This is the kind of recruit Duke needed to propel them to the top again.

scout.com has this to say about Williams

Excellent student and elite level guard. Capable of playing up to three positions on the perimeter. Has the hoop IQ, talent and ability to play college basketball at the highest level. Hit his stride as a junior and is one of the best at his position.

Next up is the smooth shooting 6’5 Scotty Hopson, or so his YouTube video would suggest. I’ve read quite a few opinions stating that Hopson really needs to improve his outside stroke. At any rate, he’s still headed to Tennessee and will undoubtedly put up some of the best numbers this year for anyone in his class. Scotty has a great knowledge and feel for the game and will likely be one and done at Tennessee.

Willie Warren, a 6’4 point guard, looks to be one of those players who could stay for two or three years and help push Blake Griffin and the Oklahoma Sooners deep into the tourney. Willie is a strong kid and should develop into more of a two guard down the line. Solid shooter with a great motor.

Warren reminds me of Chauncey Billups. Williams resembles Jason Richardson a little and as for Hopson, I’ll go with Fred Jones without a shot.
