College Fast Break - NCAA Basketball - College Basketball

There are stupid ideas…and then there are STUPID ideas

by Rich Carlson on November 15th, 2007

One of the most popular sporting events in the world is the NCAA basketball tournament. March Madness. Bracketology. One Shining Moment. Princeton versus Georgetown.

For two weeks in March, it captivates the American sports scene.  College basketball is kind for those two weeks.

Apparently, The Gazelle Group believes that more college basketball in March is a good thing. They announced The College Basketball Invitational, which will compete directly with the NIT for the scraps that the NCAA tournament didn’t want.

In total, there will be 113 teams now playing in post-season basketball tournaments.

People don’t watch the NIT to begin with, and now we have a second tournament trying to steal some of the post-season spoils.

What an absolute joke. At this rate, every single team in the NCAA will one day be eligible for post-season play, regardless of their records.

The greed of some people never ceases to amaze me.
