The O.J./LeBron Connection
After searching the headlines and reading about that donkey that choked at the Belmont Stakes yesterday, the endless NBA Finals coverage rhetoric, and watching my favorite tennis player Roger Federer get blasted again in straight sets to that no-sleeves-wearing Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the French Open final this morning, I ran into this little tidbit.
Reports are that Mayo has a new agent - Leon Rose, who also represents Cleveland Cavaliers All-Everything player LeBron James.
The signing was confirmed on Friday by Mayo family attorney Mike Woelfel (he must be a very busy man these days).
As you know from reading here and everywhere else in the free world, Mayo parted ways with BDA Sports in Los Angeles after reports surfaced from a former lackey that the agency gave him money in exchange for signing him as a client as early as high school and while Mayo was a “student” at USC.
Somehow I find this a little refreshing. Say what you want about him, but I’ve always thought of James as a stand-up guy who looks like he did all the right things while he was going through the process of coming out of high school and entering the NBA.
Sharing the same agent is like sharing the same barber. You don’t really see too much of each other, if at all, but there’s still a connection (that may be a bad analogy, but it’s the best I can come up with while my kid is pestering me to let him play with his Nintendo DS for a while).
I guess what I’m trying say is that hopefully James and Mayo can have a meeting of the minds and some of James’ wisdom will rub off on Mayo.
