Pitt’s roster has turned into a M*A*S*H* unit

For a team that is 11-1 and ranked in the top 10, things aren’t looking very pretty for the Pittsburgh Panthers. In fact, their dreams of a deep run into the NCAA tournament have turned into a medical nightmare.

The injury-depleted Panthers suffered another major setback on Saturday night when junior guard Levance Fields broke a bone in his left foot. Doctors indicated that Fields will require surgery that will keep him out of action for 8-12 weeks, which basically means the Panthers will be lucky to have Fields back by the time March Madness rolls around.

Combine Fields injury with Mike Cook’s season-ending knee injury and Austin Wallace’s fractured patella, Pitt has 9 healthy scholarship players left on the roster.

The effects of these injuries is starting to take its toll on the Panthers, who were drubbed 80-55 by Dayton on Saturday, and they could get worse as the Panthers gear up for the tough Big East conference schedule.

Everybody who had Pitt penciled in for a trip to the Final Four should get their Pink Pearl erasers out and remove Pitt from their brackets.

Alas, poor Pittsburgh, we hardly knew ye…
