A bit of trouble down on Rocky Top
The Tennessee Volunteers, coming off a 24-11 campaign last season, suspended sophomore forward Duke Crews indefinitely for violating team rules.
Don’t you just love the whole “violating team rules” explanation? I understand the need to protect a player’s right to privacy, and I understand that these issues should be dealt with in-house.
But maybe, just maybe, if coaches were forced to explain why a player is suspended, it might just embarrass the player enough to make them alter their behavior. I’m pretty sure the thought of having their indiscretions exposed to the media would scare a lot of players straight.
Crews started 18 games for Tennessee last season and averaged 8.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per contest. Any prolonged absence of Crews will definitely hurt the Vols this year.
